Table at Monks is an independent café and eatery on the corner of Madras and Armagh Streets in Christchurch Central City.

We’re all about good coffee, great food and creating a relaxed place where people can catch up, slow down and enjoy themselves.

From classic brunch favourites to dishes with a little more personality, our menu is designed to have something for everyone. Alongside our food, we serve Coffee Supreme coffee, matcha, cold foam drinks and a changing selection of seasonal specials.

Our story and philosophy

Table at Monks has been part of Christchurch’s café scene since 2016, tucked on the corner of Madras and Armagh Streets in the central city. Our menu brings together familiar brunch favourites and Monks signatures, alongside Coffee Supreme coffee, creative matcha, cold foam drinks and seasonal specials. We respect the classics, but we're always happy to try something a little different.

Most importantly, we want Monks to be a place where people feel comfortable. Whether it’s your morning coffee, weekend brunch with friends, a family catch-up or a quiet moment in the courtyard, there’s always a place for you at our table. The meaning behind the "Monks"

The name Monks reflects mindfulness and simplicity: a reminder to pause, savor the moment, and enjoy the everyday pleasures of good food and good company. Like the calm rhythm of a monk's day, our café embodies balance and warmth, offering a peaceful escape amid the lively buzz of the city.

Our Team

Behind the scenes is a dedicated team of chefs, baristas, and front-of-house staff who share a love for great food and friendly service. We take pride in creating a welcoming atmosphere where every guest feels genuinely looked after.

Our baristas craft each cup of Supreme Coffee with care, and our kitchen team works with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients to bring out the best in every dish.

Our Space & Design

Step inside and you’ll find a space that feels both stylish and comfortable. Our interior blends timber textures, lush greenery, and natural light, creating a calm, relaxed environment where you can unwind and enjoy the moment. The design reflects our connection to nature and the local community — light-filled, modern, and full of warmth

Our courtyard adds another layer of charm, offering a boutique outdoor dining experience surrounded by colour and life. It’s a space designed for everyone — friends catching up over brunch, families enjoying the nearby Margaret Mahy Playground, and even furry companions relaxing by your side.
